Start small, think big,
and take the long view.

I started working creatively at age seven, selling my drawings door-to-door in Ferguson, MO. When I showed my mom the money I earned, she asked me where I got it. I explained it was from selling drawings and she encouraged me to keep it up. A single parent, she instilled in her children the importance of creativity, self-education, and learning from nature. She knew that holding these values would improve our lives.

I no longer sell my drawings door-to-door. As a first-generation college graduate, I’m proud to say I’ve been making a living as a creative professional for over 20 years now, primarily by designing books. Since 2016 I have designed and art directed books for Timber Press, a nature publisher in Portland, Oregon. When I’m not working you can find me playing outside.
